Conservative Candidate for North East Mayor, Guy Renner-Thompson, has called for more services at the £35 million new state-of-the-art hospital in Berwick-upon-Tweed.
The 21st-century hospital to replace the old infirmary will create 295 full-time equivalent jobs per year during the construction and operational phases, and generate more than £17million to the local economy during the build.
Guy said, "It's fantastic to see this investment into Berwick for the replacement hospital. But for too long people in and around Berwick have had to travel all the way to Cramlington or Newcastle for basic hospital treatment, like me when I dislocated my shoulder playing rugby for Berwick RFC.
As Mayor I will make sure Berwick gets the best out of its state of the art £35 million new hospital when it’s finished next year. Northumbria NHS Trust has already announced the hospital will include endoscopy and colposcopy services which is good news, but I wan't to make sure we get as many services in there as possible so people can be treated as close to home as possible"
