No Mayoral tax rises

In the Devolution Deal the Mayor has the power to set a precept on council tax to fund mayoral functions and to ask to charge a business rate supplement.

The Labour Party and their candidate are already dreaming up new ways to add to the region’s tax burden. The Conservative Party utterly reject the idea that what the region needs more of is unnecessary new taxes.

We will sign a pledge alongside any other candidate in the election who wishes to state that we will never increase the existing tax burden by introducing more taxes for residents or businesses.
