Conservative North East Mayor candidate Guy Renner-Thompson has weighed in on St. James' Park move talks
Bosses at Newcastle United have asked supporters whether they would be in favour of building a new stadium from scratch on the current St James' Park site - similar to what Premier League rivals Tottenham Hotspur did at White Hart Lane. The supporter survey, emailed to season ticket holders, also included questions on the matchday experience at St James' Park, ticket prices and hospitality.
Conservative hopeful for Mayor of the North East Guy Renner-Thompson said, " St James' Park must stay in the city centre! Its has been the heart of football in Newcastle since 1892. It's an icon of the city and a mecca for toon fans across the region and the world. I used to live on the other side of Leazes Park and the roar from the stadium was magical. Its city centre location means on match days the whole town comes alive with hustle and bustle. The bars and restaurants are rammed with punters before, during and after the game. As the Mayor of the North East I would resist any move to relocate St James Park away from the city centre."
